UKMTO Reports Attack on Vessel Near UAE Waters

(MENAFN) A commercial vessel traveling near the coast of the United Arab Emirates was reportedly struck by a projectile roughly 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali port, according to information released by the UK Maritime Trade Operations office.

According to reports, the captain of the container ship informed authorities that the ship had been hit by an unidentified object, which triggered a small fire on board.

The report noted that the blaze was quickly contained and brought under control. All crew members aboard the vessel were reported safe, with no injuries recorded.

Officials have not yet determined the type of projectile involved, and it remains unclear who was responsible for the incident. No organization has claimed responsibility so far.

The episode occurs at a time of increasing security concerns along major shipping lanes in the region, particularly in the Arabian Gulf and waters surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic passage is considered one of the world’s most important routes for transporting oil and facilitating global trade.

Analysts warn that attacks involving commercial vessels in these waters could raise alarm among shipping operators and maritime insurance firms, potentially influencing navigation and trade activity in one of the busiest maritime corridors worldwide.
